Hello there. My name is John Franks and I am a project manager based in Shirley near Croydon, South London. I work primarily on behalf of Logibase Ltd, a bespoke software development company with offices in both London and Birmingham, but I also serve a portfolio of private clients that I have accumulated over the years. Below are examples of recent websites I have created together with some background information on me. If you'd like to get in touch simply use my contact form or other contact methods listed.
You may be mistaken for thinking I come from a web development or creative background, but I actually started out with very different ambitions. Through my childhood and into my mid-twenties, I endeavoured to compete on the world stage at the game of golf. A physical talent resulted in a reasonable amateur career, but shortly after turning professional, the realization of a tough travelling lifestyle brought my playing ambitons to an end.
I naturally transitioned into working life as a golf performance analyst, consulting to organisations and tournament golfers alongside recognised analyst Chris Sells. Through our work together, we evolved a vision to build the world's most powerful golf statistics analysis system. And with the help of incredibly supportive investors, we went onto conceptualise and create StrokeAverage.com.
Our introduction into IT was an enormous undertaking, a huge leap into the deep end of technology, with all sorts of jargon, complexity, confusion and delays (even problems with IT companies). It was only through the introduction to Logibase Ltd that we were able to pull through and complete the project. Their values, commitment and passion matched our own, and after an overall journey of three years we were able to launch in 2006.
Following the StrokeAverage.com experience, my interests in IT grew (specifically in websites and applications) to the point in 2009 I actually began taking on small projects myself. My relationship with Logibase evolved and so did my abilities as a project manager. And although I continued (and still do continue) to work on specialist golf projects, I transitioned into project management full time in 2011.
The pinnacle of my work to date encompassed my knowledge and experience as a golf analyst and also my skills as a project manager, all in one. Together with Chris Sells and the team at Logibase, we played a key role in Paul McGinley's back room team (labelled The Team Behind The Team) during his Captaincy for the 2014 Ryder Cup. Our duties spanned 18 months and included a variety of golf analysis and complex IT tasks, with the icing on the cake being a convincing European Team victory.
